Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann sparked a political controversy after he criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “vishwachela” (disciple of the world) instead of the often-used term “vishwaguru” (teacher of the world).

Mann made the remark while reacting to reports that the United States allowed India a limited waiver to purchase Russian oil amid the ongoing global energy crisis. The Punjab CM said that if India requires permission from the US to buy oil from Russia, then the government cannot claim to be leading the world diplomatically.
