BJP Leader’s Brother Shot at in Bihar’s Saran; Police Probe Underway

Patna: A day after a youth was shot at in Bihar’s Saran district, police have launched a massive manhunt to identify and arrest the attackers, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday evening in Rasulpur village under the Amanour police station area, where bike-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on Bajrang Prasad Soni, the younger brother of BJP leader Jitendra Kumar Soni.

The attackers fled the spot immediately after the shooting. Bajrang sustained serious gunshot injuries and was initially treated locally before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). His condition is reported to be critical.

Three rounds fired at BJP leader’s brother

According to family members, Bajrang was returning home on a motorcycle with his nephew Shobhit Raj after closing their shop.

At around 7 p.m., when they reached near Rasulpur Middle School, unidentified motorcycle-borne men allegedly chased them and fired three rounds.

Bajrang suffered bullet injuries to his neck and back. Shobhit, who was accompanying him at the time, was questioned by police as part of the investigation.

The shooting triggered panic in the village, following which family members rushed Bajrang to Patna for further treatment.

Police probe land dispute angle

After receiving information about the incident, Madhaura Deputy Superintendent of Police Savinder Kumar Das and a team from Amanour police station reached the spot and began investigating.

Police sources said Jitendra Kumar Soni and his brother Bajrang had been involved in a land dispute with extended family members.

The dispute had allegedly resulted in a violent clash between the two sides in December 2025, during which both Jitendra and Bajrang sustained serious injuries.

According to police sources, those accused in the earlier case were released on bail around 10 days before Thursday’s shooting.

Police are now examining whether the previous dispute is connected to the latest attack.

Manhunt launched to nab attackers

The police are investigating all possible angles and working to identify those involved in the shooting.

Madhaura DSP Savinder Kumar Das said police teams were working to identify and arrest the accused. Further investigation is underway.
