Hearing on Majithia’s arrest in Chandigarh High Court deferred: Petition to be revised in 4 weeks, next date is 26 August

Chandigarh, July 29: A petition challenging the arrest of former Punjab minister and Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia was heard in the Punjab-Haryana High Court today. Majithia’s lawyers sought four weeks’ time from the court to amend the petition, which was granted.

Now the next hearing of this case will be on August 26. Majithia was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau from Amritsar on June 25. He is accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to his income.

Earlier in 2021, during the tenure of the Congress government, a case was also registered against Majithia under the NDPS Act, in which till now statements of six people, including former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay and former Deputy Director of ED, have been recorded.

Raids have been conducted on Majithia’s properties in Punjab, Himachal, Delhi, and UP. The government says that it has solid evidence, while Majithia’s lawyer is calling it a politically motivated and baseless case.

Demand for live streaming, not in-camera

Majithia’s lawyers have filed an application in the Mohali court, demanding that the hearing of this case be done through live streaming and not in-camera. They argue that people living all over Punjab and abroad also want to know the truth in this case.
