Canada Busts Major Cross-Border Drug Network, Seizes C$140 Million Worth of Narcotics

Ontario: Canadian authorities have dismantled an alleged cross-border drug trafficking network in one of Ontario’s biggest drug seizures by weight, recovering illegal narcotics worth nearly C$140 million and charging 21 people in connection with the operation.

The investigation, named Project Bay, led to the seizure of approximately 973 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 660 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and 49 kilograms of suspected opium, according to a joint statement issued by police and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Drugs, Weapons and Cash Recovered

During the investigation, authorities also seized:

• 230 oxycodone tablets
• 17 firearms, including an anti-tank rifle
• Ammunition and prohibited weapons
• High-end jewellery
• Money-counting machines
• 43 mobile phones
• Six laptops
• Around C$80,000 and US$10,000 in cash

Police also seized a vehicle believed to have been linked to the alleged criminal activities.

Investigation Began in 2025

The investigation was launched by Windsor Police in January 2025, with the CBSA joining the probe a month later to help identify and investigate the alleged network involved in importing illegal drugs into Canada.

As the investigation expanded across provincial and international borders, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) also joined the operation.

Authorities alleged that the group operated through a broker-style model within the commercial trucking industry, using legitimate transportation networks to move illegal substances.

Drugs Allegedly Moved Through Trucking Routes

Investigators claimed that the network used established contacts to recruit truck drivers who knowingly transported illegal drugs across the border while concealing them within regular commercial shipments.

The international investigation also involved support from US agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Authorities Continue Probe

Police described Project Bay as a major disruption to an organised criminal network allegedly involved in transporting large quantities of illegal drugs through commercial supply chains.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue examining the full extent of the alleged operation and identifying other individuals or organisations that may be linked to the network.
