A tragic road accident occurred on Friday morning near the Srinath Sales Marble Market in Dhanas, Chandigarh. A speeding car violently struck a young man who was crossing the road, resulting in his death on the spot. Following the collision, the car went out of control and crashed into a roadside pole. The driver of the car also sustained serious injuries in the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Bibhash Kumar, a resident of Kacchi Colony, Dhanas, who worked as a daily wage laborer. Meanwhile, the injured driver has been identified as Suraj Kumar, a resident of Mastgarh village in Punjab.
Youth Thrown into the Air and Landed Far Away
The police received a report regarding the accident from the control room at approximately 10:30 AM on Friday. Subsequently, ASI Naseeb Singh of the Sarangpur Police Station, along with his team, arrived at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Bibhash Kumar was in the process of crossing the road when a speeding car, approaching from the direction of Mullanpur, struck him.
According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that the young man was thrown into the air and landed a considerable distance away. After the collision, the car went out of control and crashed into a pole situated along the roadside. As a result of the crash, the car sustained heavy damage, and the driver, Suraj Kumar, was injured. Following the incident, the injured youth was transported to PGI Sector-12 in a PCR vehicle, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Driver Was Heading to Sector-22
The police have recorded the statement of an eyewitness, Pappu Yadav, a resident of Dhanas. Initial investigations indicate that the accused driver was traveling from Mullanpur towards Chandigarh and was headed to Sector-22. It is reported that he works in the mobile market. The Sarangpur Police have initiated the process of registering a case against the accused driver under Sections 281 and 125(A) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
