Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested five cyber fraud suspects in Mumbai and seized assets worth crores during a raid on an illegal international call centre operating from a resort in Nashik, Maharashtra.
The Rainforest Resort in Igatpuri was raided after a cyber fraud case was registered on August 8 against six Mumbai residents and unknown associates for duping victims in the United States and Canada.
The five detainees—Vishal Yadav, Shehbaz, Durgesh, Abhay Raj, and Sameer (also known as Kalia or Sohail)—are accused of conspiring to commit financial fraud by impersonation and phishing calls from the illegal call centre, posing as Amazon Support Services. The operation employed about 60 workers, including diallers, verifiers, and closers.
CBI officers recovered 44 laptops, 71 mobile phones, and cash totaling Rs 1.20 crore, along with 500 grams of gold and seven luxury cars valued at around Rs 1 crore. They detected cryptocurrency transactions around 5,000 USDT (about Rs 5 lakh) and 2,000 Canadian dollars in gift vouchers (about Rs 1.26 lakh). Searches found 62 employees actively working at the time.
Investigators are analyzing data from the laptops and mobile phones used to target foreign nationals, as the probe continues.
