Patiala: The CBI has intensified its investigation into former DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested in a bribery and disproportionate assets case. On Tuesday morning, a CBI team arrived at the home of a property dealer in Patiala and began searching it. The team has been there since around 7:30 am.
Meanwhile, another CBI team raided the home of a property dealer in Sargodha Colony on Pakhowal Road in Ludhiana. Residents say the CBI team entered the home at 7 a.m. and since then, no one has been allowed in or out.
The team also questioned those close to the former DIG. The team also visited Machhiwara, Sansowal Kalan, and Bankar Gujran, a village in Koom Kalan, to investigate property matters.
Bhullar is currently on CBI remand, which will continue until November 5th. The agency first took him on remand three days ago. The CBI is also questioning a middleman connected to the same case, who is currently in the agency’s custody. It is reported that this action was taken only after face-to-face questioning of both.
The CBI is now working to solidify the case.
The CBI is investigating where Bhullar invested the bribe money. The agency is trying to ensure that no aspect of the case remains unfinished when the charge sheet is presented in court. Sources say this is the first time in many years that the Chandigarh CBI has arrested a senior officer at this level, so the agency is working to fully consolidate the case.
Bhullar and the middleman were interrogated face to face.
On Sunday, the CBI interrogated former DIG Bhullar and middleman Krishanu Sharda face to face during remand. Krishanu confessed to running a network of extortionists from businessmen and delivering commissions to Bhullar. The CBI also recovered several crucial pieces of evidence from his mobile phone. The investigating agency is now investigating Bhullar’s mobile phone, WhatsApp calls, and chats, along with his benami properties worth crores.
