Char Dham Yatra: Real-Time Tracking System for Pilgrims
Uttarakhand, April 11: Preparations are now underway to implement digital surveillance over every activity of devotees participating in the Char Dham Yatra. Much like the Amarnath Yatra, a proposal has been put forward to implement a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. This system will enable the administration to constantly monitor the whereabouts of every pilgrim and assess the crowd density on specific routes at any given time.

RFID tags to track pilgrims in real time

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recommended issuing RFID tags to devotees undertaking the Char Dham Yatra. These tags will track the pilgrims’ locations, thereby providing the administration with real-time updates regarding the status and position of every individual traveler.
RFID readers will be strategically installed at various points along the pilgrimage route. As soon as a devotee passes through these designated points, their information will be automatically scanned and transmitted directly to the control room. This will allow the administration to maintain real-time situational awareness knowing exactly where each pilgrim is located, the level of congestion on specific routes and which of the holy shrines is experiencing the highest volume of activity at any given moment.
