CM Mann Inaugurates Tata Steel Green Plant in Ludhiana; Halwara-Delhi Flight Bookings to Begin Next Week

Ludhiana: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated Tata Steel’s state-of-the-art green steel plant in Ludhiana, marking a major step in sustainable steel production.

Tata Steel’s chairman informed Minister Sanjeev Arora was also present among the dignitaries, during the event he informed that flight bookings from Halwara Airport to Delhi will commence from next week.

Tata Steel has invested ₹3,200 crore (around $3.2 billion) in the plant, which is expected to generate direct employment for over 2,500 people.

This is the company’s second recycling-based green steel facility in India, as it promotes scrap-based steelmaking technology domestically and internationally.

Initiatives like the scrap processing unit in Rohtak, Haryana, and decarbonization projects in Europe are part of this effort.

The Punjab government is projected to earn ₹200-300 crore annually in revenue from the plant through various taxes.

Spread across approximately 115 acres in Hi-Tech Valley, Ludhiana, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 0.75 million tonnes and primarily manufacture TMT bars and other steel products for the construction sector.
