CM Mann Meets Prahlad Joshi Over Crop Loss, RDF Issues

Chandigarh, April 10: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Union Minister Prahlad Joshi in New Delhi to discuss key issues affecting the state including the damage of crops due to unseasonal weather and pending Rural Development Fund (RDF) dues.

Discussion on Crop Loss

During the meeting CM Mann raised concerns over significant crop losses caused by recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms across Punjab. Large areas of wheat and other rabi crops have been affected with damage reported in multiple districts.

He urged the Centre to send assessment teams to evaluate the losses on the ground and ensure timely compensation for farmers.

Demand for RDF and Financial Support

The Chief Minister also highlighted the issue of pending RDF payments, which are crucial for rural infrastructure and agricultural development in Punjab. He stressed that delays in fund release are impacting development projects and the state’s rural economy.

Centre Assures Action

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi assured that the Centre will look into the concerns raised and send teams to assess crop damage. The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between the Centre and the state to address farmers’ issues and ensure smooth procurement operations.

Background: Rising Crop Damage Concerns

Punjab has witnessed widespread crop damage due to adverse weather conditions affecting over a lakh acres of farmland. The state government has already initiated surveys (girdawari) to assess the losses and provide compensation accordingly.
