Beijing: A knife attack at a vocational school in Yixing city, Jiangsu province, resulted in eight killed and 17 injuries, according to local police reports.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The 21-year-old suspect, identified by his surname Xu, was apprehended at the scene and admitted to the crime, as revealed by a statement from the Yixing public security bureau.
Authorities stated that Xu, who graduated from the school this year, returned to express his grievances over not receiving his graduation certificate due to failing his exams, as well as dissatisfaction with his internship salary.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and police are conducting further investigations.
Videos shared on Western social media, including X, depicted injured individuals on the street as bystanders rushed to assist. However, a search for related videos or images on the Chinese social media platform Weibo showed no results.
This incident follows a recent tragedy in which a driver crashed into a crowd outside a sports center in Zhuhai, killing 35 people and injuring 43 others.
