More than 20 students were detained during the protest from areas around India Gate and Kartavya Path, and later from outside the Parliament Street police station.

Police had registered two separate first information reports (FIRs) in the matter — one against six individuals at the Kartavya Path police station and another against 17 individuals at the Parliament Street police station.

FIR Lodged

The FIRs were initially lodged under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to assault, obstruction of public servants, and outraging the modesty of women. On November 25, authorities added charges related to making assertions prejudicial to national integration in the case registered at Kartavya Path.

The case registered at the Parliament Street police station pertained to an alleged scuffle between the protesters and police personnel. All 17 individuals named in this FIR have now been released on bail, with eight granted bail last week and the remaining nine on Tuesday.

The second FIR also referred to the alleged recovery of pepper sprays during the protest and claims of purported Maoist links involving some of the protesters, the report said.
