New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed rainfall on Thursday, providing much-needed relief from the humid and warm weather that had gripped the region over the past few days. The showers brought down temperatures and improved weather conditions across the national capital.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and adjoining areas, forecasting cloudy skies, moderate rainfall and strong surface winds. The weather department said the prevailing monsoon conditions are likely to keep the weather pleasant over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Thursday, accompanied by light rain and gusty winds.

Southwest Monsoon Advances Across North India

The IMD said the Southwest Monsoon continues to strengthen and is expected to advance further into several parts of North India in the coming days. The seasonal system is likely to bring widespread rainfall across multiple states, improving weather conditions while increasing the possibility of heavy rain in some areas.

Orange Alert Issued for Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, the Southwest Monsoon has now covered the entire state. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in five districts, including Dehradun.

Authorities have cautioned that intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging, landslides and travel disruptions in vulnerable areas.

Several parts of Uttarakhand received significant rainfall on Wednesday. According to the Dehradun Meteorological Centre:

• Jolly Grant: 52.5 mm
• Laksar: 49 mm
• Mussoorie: 43 mm
• Rudraprayag: 32.5 mm
• Haldwani: 29.5 mm
• Pauri Garhwal: 28.5 mm
• Kirtinagar: 23.5 mm
• Khanpur: 23 mm

The widespread rainfall reflects the rapid progress of the southwest monsoon across the hill state, with more showers expected in the coming days.
