Woman robbed at knifepoint
The robbery took place at around 11:35 a.m. on August 19, when Ashok Vihar police received information about the incident.
The 54-year-old victim, Neera Verma, was at her Ashok Vihar residence at the time. Her husband, Manoj Kumar, had left for his factory around 9 a.m., while their twin daughters had gone to their wholesale store in Chawri Bazaar.
According to the police, after her daughters left, Verma noticed suspicious movement outside the house. When she opened the door, two unidentified youths were standing near the stairs.
The youths allegedly asked her for water. Suspecting something was wrong, she refused and attempted to close the iron gate. The accused allegedly forced their way inside, dragged her into the house and overpowered her.
Victim tied up as accused searched house
Police said two more accomplices subsequently joined the robbery. One of the accused allegedly took the woman to a room facing the balcony, while her legs were tied with a scarf.
Another accused allegedly kept watch over her at knifepoint while the others searched different rooms of the house.
The accused allegedly spent around 20 to 25 minutes inside the residence, collecting cash and valuables before fleeing with the bags.
Month-long recce
Investigators have found that the accused allegedly monitored the victim’s family and their daily routine for nearly a month before executing the robbery.
Police suspect that the minor who had earlier worked for the victim’s husband used his knowledge of the family’s routine to help plan the crime.
The investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and recover the remaining stolen property.
