Delhi Police Arrest Two Interstate ‘Thak-Thak’ Gang Members; Rs 6 Lakh Cash, Jewellery Recovered

New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the South District has arrested two alleged members of the notorious interstate ‘Thak-Thak’ gang and recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery, electronic gadgets, burglary tools and the two-wheeler allegedly used in the crimes.

Police said the operation has helped crack three burglary and theft cases registered across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Gang Members Arrested Following Intelligence Input

The accused have been identified as Gangesh Naydu (40) and Vikram (33), both residents of Dakshinpuri in South Delhi. According to police, the duo are habitual offenders with multiple criminal cases registered against them in Delhi, Haryana and Karnataka.

Officials said the arrests were made after the AATS received specific intelligence about the movement of the suspects. Acting on the information, a police team laid a trap on June 30 and apprehended both accused.

During interrogation and subsequent searches, police recovered stolen cash, laptops, mobile phones, a MacBook, gold jewellery, around 1.1 kg of silver articles, Samsung earbuds, burglary tools and the scooty allegedly used in the offences.

How the ‘Thak-Thak’ Gang Operated

According to investigators, the interstate gang primarily targeted people carrying large amounts of cash or valuables, especially those leaving banks or commercial establishments.

One gang member would distract victims by claiming there was a punctured tyre, oil leakage or another problem with their vehicle. While the victim stepped out to inspect the issue, another accomplice would quickly steal bags containing cash, jewellery, laptops or other valuables before fleeing the scene on a two-wheeler.

Police said this distraction-based method of theft is commonly known as the ‘Thak-Thak’ technique, which has been used by several organised theft gangs operating across different states.

Three Cases Solved, More Links Under Probe

The investigation has so far helped police solve three criminal cases, including two e-FIRs registered at Ambedkar Nagar and Neb Sarai police stations in Delhi, and another case registered at Sector-65 Police Station in Gurugram under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials said technical surveillance, interrogation and other evidence linked the accused to multiple theft and burglary incidents across Delhi-NCR. Investigators are now examining whether they were involved in other unsolved cases.

Accused Have Long Criminal Records

Police said Gangesh Naydu has more than 30 previous criminal cases, mostly related to theft, registered in Gurugram, Faridabad and Karnataka.

Vikram also has an extensive criminal history, with cases registered in Delhi, Gurugram and Ghaziabad, including theft, robbery and Arms Act offences.

Investigation Continues

Delhi Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the interstate gang, recover additional stolen property and dismantle the wider criminal network.

Officials added that the successful operation was made possible through intelligence gathering, technical surveillance and coordinated field operations by the South District AATS team.
