Dense Fog and Frost Grip Uttarakhand, Orange Alerts Issued for Seven Districts

Dehradun: Fog is expected in seven districts of Uttarakhand today, December 25th, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, and Bageshwar. An orange fog alert has been issued for Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Champawat, while an orange alert has been issued for Pauri, Haridwar, and Dehradun.

Additionally, frost has fallen in the hilly areas. The weather in Uttarakhand will remain dry on December 25, 2025, but the cold is steadily increasing. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), fog in the plains and frost in the mountainous regions have affected normal life.

The Meteorological Department has warned of dense to very dense fog in the plains of Haridwar, Dehradun, Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat and increase in cold from cold day to severe cold day. Elderly people, children and sick people have been advised to stay indoors and wear warm clothes to protect themselves from the cold.

The administration has issued instructions to keep a special eye on traffic and health services.

The temperature is continuously falling

According to the International Medical Center (IMD), the minimum temperature in Dehradun will be around 8 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures in the plains could drop even lower. Frost and cold winds are making the hilly areas more chilly. Even during the day, the weak sunlight will make the feeling of cold persist.

Orange Alert: Dense to very dense fog in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital (Plains), Champawat (Plains), low visibility in the morning and evening, severe cold day conditions.

Yellow Alert: Lower areas of Tehri, Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli and Uttarkashi – Light to moderate fog, drop in temperature at night and morning, possibility of frost.

Dense fog and frost are likely to disrupt road, rail, and air traffic. Drivers are advised to use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel during the morning and evening hours. Authorities are closely monitoring traffic and health services in both the plains and hilly districts.
