Jalandhar : Punjab Local Bodies Minister Balkar Singh today reviewed rural development projects, especially the utilization of funds under 15th Finance Commission, MNREGA and discretionary grants issued by cabinet ministers of the Punjab government.
During a meeting with officials from the Rural Development and Panchayat Department and the Welfare Department, the minister assessed ongoing works under the MGNREGA scheme, 15th finance commission funds, and discretionary grants.
He emphasized the implementation of pond rejuvenation projects using the Thapar model to address wastewater issues in villages.
It may be mentioned here that under that project pond water is used for irrigation purposes. He also directed to initiate the construction of new community halls in villages as it will provide a suitable place to needy people to organise their social gatherings.
Highlighting the Punjab Government’s commitment to rural development, the Minister called for new project proposals, assuring that there would be no shortage of funds. He asked the officials to visit their respective villages and submit new proposals for overall development in consultation with people .
Additional Deputy Commissioner Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa, and other officials were present in the meeting.
