On the occasion of Navratri, the Gangotri Temple Committee has announced the date for the opening of the doors of Gangotri Dham. According to committee president Dharmanand Semwal, the doors will be opened for devotees on Akshaya Tritiya, April 19th, at 12:15 pm during the auspicious time.

On April 18th, the idol of Ganga Ji will depart for Gangotri Dham from its winter residence in Mukhba in a palanquin accompanied by an army band and drums. The night will be spent at the Bhairav Temple in Bhairav Valley. The palanquin will then arrive at Gangotri Dham on foot at 7 am on April 19th, where the doors will be opened for six months with due rituals.
Entry of non-Sanatans prohibited
Committee Vice President Arun Semwal stated that this year, non-Sanatans will be prohibited from entering the temple premises during the Chardham Yatra.
