Barmer: MLA Dr. Priyanka Chaudhary prominently raised the issue of farmers facing problems due to wild boars in the Assembly. She said that farmers in Barmer, Jaisalmer, Balotra, and Pali districts have been facing this crisis for a long time. Herds of wild boars destroy their hard-earned crops overnight.
Fencing also ineffective
The MLA explained that even the fencing provided by the government is proving ineffective. Even mild electric shocks have no effect on the wild boars, while they pose a threat to goats and children.
An atmosphere of panic among the villagers
Dr. Chaudhary said that the situation is so serious that women and elderly people in rural areas feel afraid to leave their homes. In December, a farmer in Pali district died after being attacked by a wild boar. Several elderly women have also been attacked in the fields.
Demand for a Clear Policy and Compensation
The MLA urged the government to formulate a concrete and clear policy to protect crops from wild boars and nilgai. He also urged the Forest Department to provide grants or financial assistance to farmers whose crops are destroyed overnight. He also demanded that the Forest Department take concrete steps towards a permanent solution to this problem.
