ED Conducts Major Raid in Mohali, Seizes Bag Filled With Cash

Mohali: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday carried out a raid at the residence of an IT businessman in Mohali’s Kharar area. The search operation was conducted at Western Tower society, where ED officials were seen carrying out investigation and verification activities for several hours.

Bag Full of Cash Thrown from 9th Floor

According to reports, one bag exploded upon falling, spilling 500-rupee notes. The other bag remained intact, which a man already present below picked up and fled in a white car. The ED team chased him, but he was not caught. The second bag recovered from the scene contained approximately 21 lakh rupees in cash.

Delhi Team Leads Operation

According to sources, the ED team reached Mohali from Delhi to conduct the raid. Around eight to ten officials are said to be part of the operation. Security around the residential society was tightened during the proceedings, and movement inside the premises was reportedly restricted while the searches were underway.

Officials remained stationed inside the society as the investigation continued. However, no official statement has been issued by the agency so far regarding the nature of the case or the allegations linked to the businessman.

Driver accused of fleeing with the bags

According to sources, the businessman was informed of the ED raid in advance. Following this, the bags were thrown from the flat. It is reported that a driver was already present downstairs, who picked up one of the bags and attempted to escape in the car. Although the team chased him, he managed to escape.

Security increased in the society, investigation ongoing

Following the incident, panic descended on the society, and a large number of people gathered. Upon receiving information, local police arrived at the scene. Currently, entry into the tower has been blocked, and central agency personnel are deployed. Security has been increased from the stairs to the top floor.

Flat resident moved in four months ago

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the raid was conducted at flat number 906, where a man named Nitin Kumar Gohil lived. He is said to be associated with the IT sector. According to society members, he moved in about four months ago and a large number of couriers arrived at his flat daily, mostly received by his driver.

ED raids several locations in Mohali and Chandigarh

According to media reports, the ED has raided approximately 12 locations in Mohali and Chandigarh in connection with the alleged fraud case related to the Suntec City project. Some builders are being investigated for allegedly defrauding the public and misusing CLU licenses. ED officials have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
