ED, IT Raid Former Punjab Minister Sunder Sham Arora’s House

JALANDHAR: Former Punjab Industries Minister Sunder Shyam Arora’s troubles have intensified once again. Teams from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department raided his Hoshiarpur residence on Wednesday morning. According to reports, both agencies thoroughly examined documents and financial records found at the home.

ED officials arrived at Arora’s residence early in the morning accompanied by heavy security forces, creating a panic in the area. All entry and exit points to the house were blocked during the raid, and no one was allowed in or out. Mobile phones and other electronic devices were also seized and kept for investigation.

Corruption and Disproportionate Assets Cases

Sunder Shyam Arora is already embroiled in two serious corruption cases. He is accused of irregularities in the allotment of industrial plots and amassing assets beyond his known income. He has previously been arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Department in these cases. Now, with the involvement of the ED, the scope of the investigation has expanded to include money laundering.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation

According to investigating agencies, Arora is accused of abusing his position during the Congress government’s tenure to benefit select companies. Furthermore, he is accused of being caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹50 lakh. The Income Tax Department is investigating the discrepancy between his income and assets.

The investigation is currently ongoing, and no major seizures have yet been officially confirmed. Sources say that if concrete evidence of benami property or hawala transactions is found, Arora’s arrest is possible in the coming days. Investigating agencies are also monitoring the locations of his close associates and business partners.
