    Election Commission announces schedule for Vice Presidential poll, voting on 9th Sept

    New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the election of Vice President of India. As per the schedule, the notification for nomination will be issued on 7th August, 2025, while the last date is fixed on 21st August, 2025. The Vice Presidential election will be held on 9th September, 2025. Let us tell you that Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar tendered his resignation citing health and medical reasons.

    As per the notification, The election schedule for the Vice-President of India, 2025 (17th Vice-Presidential Election) is as follows:

    • Issue of Election Commission’s notification: 07 August 2025 
    • Last date for making nominations: 21 August 2025 
    • Date for the scrutiny of nominations: 22 August 2025 (Friday) 
    • Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures: 25 August 2025 (Monday) 
    • Date of poll, if necessary: 09 September 2025 (Tuesday) 
    • Hours of poll: 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM 
    • Date on which counting, if required, shall be taken: 09 September 2025 (Tuesday)

    Jagdeep Dhankar Resignation 

    Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar tendered his resignation on July 21st, 2 years before the completion of his term. The resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had set in motion a constitutional and political transition which led to altercations between congress and ruling BJP.

    His sudden resignation from the post came on the first day of the Parliament session. In a letter written to President Murmu, Dhankar cited his health and medical conditions for stepping down from the post.
