Election Commission Begins Distribution of Voter Information Slips Ahead of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal Polls

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has begun distributing Voter Information Slips (VIS) for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and the first phase of the West Bengal elections (April 23). According to the Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are going door-to-door to distribute these slips to voters.

Important voting information will be available on the slip
The Voter Information Slip includes voter details, polling station location, voting date and time, and a map of the polling station. It also includes a list of dos and don’ts for polling day. It also includes a QR code, allowing voters to easily check their information. This will help reduce crowding at polling stations and speed up the voting process.

New format for simpler and more clear information
The Election Commission has made the VIS simpler and more readable than before. The voter’s part number and serial number are clearly displayed on it for easy identification. The Commission has directed that the distribution of the slips be completed at least five days before the polling day and should be in the same language as the published voter list for the respective Assembly constituency.

Braille facility for differently-abled voters
The Election Commission has also decided to issue special voter information slips with Braille features for visually impaired and blind voters. This feature will be provided in addition to the standard slips to ensure greater and easier participation of differently-abled voters in the electoral process.
