New Delhi: In a first for the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), interest on Provident Fund (PF) deposits has been credited to around 34 crore member accounts by July 15, making it the earliest completion of the annual interest credit exercise. The organisation has credited 8.25% interest for the financial year 2025-26, well before the traditional September-November timeline.
Technology Upgrade Enables Faster Credit
The early completion follows the rollout of EPFO’s revamped Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform. The new system has integrated data from 123 regional offices into a single national database, replacing the earlier decentralised structure that often delayed interest calculations and account updates.
According to officials, the database migration was completed on June 30, after which interest calculations and verification were carried out before the amount was credited to members’ accounts.
34 Crore Accounts Updated, Claims Process Streamlined
The upgraded platform has consolidated nearly 1,700 crore records, including employer details and financial transactions, allowing several services such as interest credit, claim verification and withdrawals to be processed automatically. EPFO also cleared around 11 lakh pending claims worth nearly Rs 3,000 crore after the new system became operational.
How Members Can Check Their PF Balance
Subscribers can verify whether the interest has been credited through multiple channels, including the EPFO Member Passbook portal, the UMANG mobile app, the SMS service, and the missed call facility linked to their registered mobile number.
EPFO has also clarified that if the updated balance is not immediately visible in the passbook, members need not worry. The organisation said interest continues to accrue until it is officially credited, and delays in passbook updates do not reduce the amount payable.
Interest Rate Remains Unchanged
EPFO has retained the 8.25% interest rate for FY 2025-26, the same as in the previous two financial years. The organisation currently manages nearly Rs 32 lakh crore in assets across about 35 crore member accounts, including around 8 crore active contributors. For a PF balance of Rs 10 lakh, the annual interest works out to approximately Rs 82,500, subject to contributions and withdrawals during the year.
