Oslo, Norway: An explosion occurred outside the United States Embassy Oslo in Oslo, Norway early Sunday morning.

Police said no one was injured in the incident, though the cause of the blast is still under investigation.

Blast Reported Around 1 AM

According to the Oslo Police District, the explosion happened around 1:00 am local time.

Police said they received several reports of a loud blast and quickly arrived at the scene, where they confirmed that an explosion had taken place at the US embassy.

Police incident commander Michael Dellemyr told media that the blast struck the entrance of the embassy’s consular section, causing minor damage.

He said authorities would not yet share details about what exploded or the type of damage, as the investigation is still in its early stages.

Police Suspect Human Involvement

Later, Dellemyr told TV2 Norway that police have an idea about what caused the explosion and believe it may have been an act carried out by someone.

Investigators are currently speaking with witnesses, and a bomb squad was sent to examine the site. A large number of police officers were deployed around the embassy area.

Police are also working closely with embassy officials while the investigation continues.

No Link Yet to Middle East Tensions

Recently, several US diplomatic missions have been placed on high alert in the Middle East due to American military operations in Iran and rising regional tensions.

However, Dellemyr said there is currently no evidence linking the Oslo explosion to those conflicts.

“It is far too early to connect this incident to any international conflict,” he said.

Witnesses Describe Loud Blasts

People living near the embassy reported hearing loud explosions.

A 16-year-old resident named Edvard told TV2 he was watching television when the blast occurred.

He said he and his mother initially thought the noise came from their house, but when they looked outside they saw police vehicles with flashing lights.

According to him, the area quickly filled with police officers, dogs, drones, helicopters and armed personnel.

“Three Bangs” Heard

Another group of witnesses said they heard three loud bangs that shook the ground.

Kristian Wendelborg Einung and his friends were waiting for a taxi near the embassy when the explosion happened.

He said that when they later drove past the area, the street in front of the embassy was covered in thick smoke, which looked like dense fog.

Area Sealed Off

Police blocked off a large area around the embassy and stopped vehicles from entering nearby streets while investigators examined the site.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more details will be shared once officials determine the exact cause of the explosion.
