Punjab’s most expensive toll plaza free today: Farmers to protest over poor condition of link roads

Ludhiana: Leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union (BKM) are leading a convoy of farmers toward the Ladowal toll plaza in Ludhiana, Punjab. Farmer leaders are staging a protest there and have announced the release of the toll plaza. Farmers allege that the road from village Mangli to Ladowal toll is in very poor condition, causing significant inconvenience to residents.

Dilbag Singh Gill, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union, stated that the condition of Rahon Road is so poor that no one can drive a vehicle. He added that a pregnant woman crossing Rahon Road could face serious problems. Furthermore, in the evening, the area from village Mangali to Basti Jodhewal Chowk is often jammed due to the presence of street vendors.

This is the reason for the anger of the farmers

Dilbag Singh said that the link roads are so full of potholes after the rains that many drivers are getting into accidents every day. He alleged that toll workers collect hefty tolls from drivers, but provide no amenities to the public. Therefore, people have been urged to gather in large numbers today to protest the administration and make the Ladowal toll free.

Police-administration alert

Upon receiving information about the farmers’ protest, the police administration swung into action. Forces from two to three police stations and personnel from police outposts were deployed around the toll plaza to prevent the protest from reaching the toll. The police have made strict security arrangements.
