Amritsar: Passengers going abroad or returning from Amritsar Airport in Punjab will not have to stand in long queues. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Program (FTI-TTP) at Amritsar Airport through video conferencing. With this facility, passengers will get immigration clearance within minutes.
In this new system, the passenger will only have to scan the airline’s boarding pass and passport. After this, biometric identification will be done and the e-gate will open automatically. Along with this, immigration clearance will also be obtained.
Right now, Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders can avail the benefits of this scheme free of cost. For this, one has to register online on the https://ftittp.mha.gov.in portal. Biometric data will be recorded at the airport or FRRO office.
Shah said- this is PM Modi ‘s thinking of ‘speed, skill and scope’
Amit Shah said that this facility will provide great relief to passengers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s thinking is to increase trust along with technology. He told the officials that more and more passengers should join this program.
Shah also paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on this occasion. He said that 132 years ago in 1893, Vivekananda had introduced India and Sanatan Dharma to the whole world in Chicago. It is a matter of pride that this facility is being inaugurated on the same day today.
Facility started at 4 other airports as well along with Amritsar
This facility has been started at Lucknow, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirapalli airports as well. In the coming time, this facility will be implemented at 21 major airports of the country.
