FIR filed against former Punjab Minister Bhullar, officer’s suicide sparks uproar

Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Sunday filed a case against former Transport Minister Laljit Bhullar, hours after Punjab State Warehousing Corporation District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa committed suicide.

Officer makes serious allegations in video
Randhawa had accused the minister of harassment and pressure. He consumed celphos at his Amritsar home on Saturday. Before his death, he recorded a 12-second video on his mobile phone, saying, “I consumed poison out of fear of Minister Laljit Bhullar, now I will not survive.”

Randhawa leaves behind his wife, a government school teacher, and three children.

Case registered based on wife’s complaint
Based on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, Upinder Kaur, a case has been registered against former minister Bhullar, his father Sukhdev Bhullar, and personal assistant Dilbag Singh under sections 108 (abetment to suicide), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The wife alleged that these people assaulted her husband and forced him to commit suicide.

BJP announces siege of CM’s residence
BJP state president Sunil Jakhar and other senior leaders will siege Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence on Sunday and demand the arrest of the former minister. Jakhar visited Amritsar and met with the deceased’s family and assured them of justice.

He said that this incident amounted to the murder of a government official in broad daylight and immediate action should be taken.

Questions raised against the government regarding the investigation
Jakhar also questioned the Chief Minister’s decision to hand over the investigation to the Chief Secretary. He said this raises questions about the government’s claims of integrity.

He also said that while people were previously afraid of gangsters, now even government officials are committing suicide under pressure.
