Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced an alliance with the Vijai Sardesai-led Goa Forward Party (GFP) for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, naming the new political front ‘Goa First’.
The alliance aims to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and present an alternative political front in the coastal state.

The announcement comes amid growing discussions among opposition parties over the need to unite against the BJP ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls. The Congress has been kept outside the announced AAP-GFP alliance for now.
Kejriwal Targets BJP, Congress
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that there was a collusion between the BJP and Congress in Goa, claiming that the Congress was helping the BJP retain power in the state despite what he described as a public mandate against the ruling party.
Kejriwal said the AAP and GFP had decided to come together to provide voters with a stronger alternative and work towards removing the BJP from power in the 2027 elections.
The alliance follows growing political activity in Goa ahead of the polls, with both AAP and GFP leaders highlighting the need for opposition unity against the BJP.
GFP Led by Vijai Sardesai
The Goa Forward Party is led by Vijai Sardesai, who represents the Fatorda constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly. The official Assembly website lists Sardesai as a GFP MLA.
AAP currently has two MLAs in the Goa Assembly, while GFP has one MLA, according to the state Assembly’s current listings.
The AAP-GFP alliance is being positioned as a new political alternative ahead of the 2027 polls, with the two parties seeking to consolidate support and challenge the BJP.
Congress Not Part of Alliance for Now
The alliance announcement comes after talks between the GFP and Congress over a possible pre-poll arrangement failed to produce a final agreement.
Congress leaders have maintained that discussions with GFP were underway. The party has also questioned the joint AAP-GFP campaign and the political messaging surrounding the proposed alliance.
The AAP and GFP, meanwhile, have criticised delays in forming a broader opposition alliance and have blamed Congress for not moving quickly enough.
The two parties have also indicated that the door could remain open for other like-minded political forces to join the alliance in the future, with the larger objective of challenging the BJP in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.
