Tragic accident in Greater Noida: Three-year-old Child dies after drowning in water filled pit

In Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, an innocent child drowned in a pit due to negligence. Just a month ago, software engineer Yuvraj Mehta drowned in Noida, then Kamal in Delhi, and now, on Sunday, three-year-old Devansh fell victim to a pit due to negligence in Greater Noida.

He had come to his maternal uncle’s house in Dalelgarh village for a religious ceremony. On Saturday afternoon, while playing, he fell into a six- to seven-foot-deep pit. Villagers allege that the pit is on pastureland.

Several complaints were made to the Greater Noida Authority to have it fenced, but officials have taken no action. The Authority claims that the land belongs to a farmer.

Anjali, daughter of Anil Thakur, a resident of Dalelgarh village near Bilaspur, is married to Rakesh, a resident of Saponi village in Secunderabad. Anil cuts hair at weddings and other events. Anjali’s brother, Devendra, had organized a 41-day religious ritual at the tomb of Daleshvar Baba in the village. Saturday was its final day. A feast was being held during the ritual.

Devansh drowned in a pit while playing

Anjali had come to this event with her son Devansh and other family members. During the feast, Devansh drowned in a pit while playing with other children. After some time, when he was not found, family and relatives began searching for him, but were unable to find him.

Child’s hat spotted in the water filled in the pit

Meanwhile, someone spotted the child’s hat in the water filled in a pit near the Samadhi site. People immediately jumped into the water and pulled the child out. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The child’s death brought mourning to the venue. The family was also inconsolable.

After the incident, Sadar Tehsildar Dr. Ajay, Deputy Tehsildar Jyot Singh, and the accountant arrived at the scene. On Sunday, Sub-District Magistrate Ashutosh Gupta arrived and inspected the scene. A team from the Greater Noida Authority also arrived and conducted an investigation.
