For Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, a convocation is not merely about awarding degrees. Accredited with the coveted NAAC A++ Grade and recognised as a Category-I University by the University Grants Commission, the University has consistently upheld high standards of academic quality while remaining rooted in the ideals of knowledge, equality, humanity and service.

The successful organisation of the First World Punjabi Conference, the formulation of the PunjabiFirst Education, Research and Governance Policy-2026, expansion of international academic collaborations and continued improvement in global rankings have collectively reflected the University’s growing academic influence.

These initiatives reaffirm its commitment to preserving linguistic and cultural heritage while simultaneously engaging with emerging global trends in higher education. Research has emerged as one of the strongest pillars of the University’s recent growth. Selection under the National Quantum Mission for the establishment of advanced quantum research facilities has placed Guru Nanak Dev University among a select group of Indian institutions working in one of the world’s most promising scientific frontiers.

Equally significant has been the University’s industrysupported research collaboration with HORIBA, Japan, highlighting its increasing ability to undertake globally relevant research with practical applications. Parallel to strengthening research, the University has accelerated its digital transformation. The launch of a redesigned official website and an expanded Open and Distance Learning portal has enhanced academic accessibility and administrative efficiency.

Academic offerings have expanded to more than 135 programmes, while industry engagement has translated into encouraging placement outcomes. During the year, 82 companies recruited 455 students, with the highest annual package reaching Rs 24 lakh, reflecting growing confidence among employers in the University’s graduates.

Student welfare has remained central to the University’s priorities. The establishment of modern diagnostic facilities at the University Health Centre, alongside continued emphasis on skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship and career guidance, demonstrates a holistic approach towards student development that extends well beyond classroom education.

Sports continue to be one of Guru Nanak Dev University’s defining strengths. The institution’s unparalleled record of winning the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 25 times remains a benchmark in Indian university sports. The past year further strengthened this legacy, with the University emerging overall champions at the All India InterUniversity Canoeing and Kayaking Championship, securing 11 gold and 9 silver medals.

Cultural initiatives, including Jashan-2026, similarly provided students with opportunities to showcase their creative talent, reinforcing the University’s belief that education must nurture both intellect and imagination. The Convocation itself will celebrate excellence in its highest form. Degrees will be conferred upon 490 graduates, while 90 research scholars will receive doctoral degrees in recognition of their contribution to knowledge creation.

The ceremony will also witness the presentation of 37 Memorial Medals, honouring outstanding academic achievement across disciplines. Among the most prestigious recognitions of the day will be the presentation of the three Chancellor’s Medals, the University’s highest distinction for graduating students.

Adding further distinction to the ceremony, the University will confer the honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) upon distinguished alumnus and internationally acclaimed attorney S. Jaspreet Singh. The honour acknowledges not only his remarkable professional achievements but also the global accomplishments of Guru Nanak Dev University’s alumni, who continue to make significant contributions across diverse fields around the world.
