Dehradun: Weather conditions changed significantly across Uttarakhand on Sunday morning, with hailstorms reported in Nainital and intermittent rainfall recorded in several districts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in most parts of Uttarakhand during the day.

Hailstorm in Nainital, Rain in Several Districts

Hail fell in the Mallital area of Nainital early in the morning. Meanwhile, intermittent rain was reported from districts including Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Bageshwar, Almora, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Dehradun.

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly districts of the state. Snowfall is also expected in areas located at altitudes of 3,500 metres and above.

In the plains as well, light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some areas.

Orange Alert Issued in Five Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts.

These areas may witness snowfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km per hour.

Yellow Alert for Seven Districts

A yellow alert has also been issued for Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital and Champawat districts.

The IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and strong winds with speeds of 50–60 km per hour at isolated places in these districts. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall in some hilly regions of the state.

Weather Activity Observed Across Regions

Rainfall was reported in Khatima in Udham Singh Nagar district, while morning showers were also recorded in Pauri Garhwal. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as weather activity may intensify in several parts of the state.
