Haryana: Row over kids in Muslim attire at school’s annual function, Hindu outfits protest

A controversy has erupted over an incident at an Indian public school’s annual day celebration, where children were dressed in Muslim attire during a performance. Hindu organizations united in protest on Monday, with members of the Sanatan Task Force chanting slogans against the school administration.

A heavy police presence was deployed outside the school in anticipation of the protest. A lengthy discussion took place between the Hindu organizations and the school principal. Devi Ram Sharma, the national president of the Sanatan Task Force, stated that it was completely wrong to have Hindu children perform in Muslim attire during the annual day celebration.

Following the meeting, the school principal stated that a resolution had been reached. He clarified that their intention was not to offend any particular religion with such a program and assured that greater care would be taken in the future regarding such events.

    Why did the controversy arise?

Three days ago, the Indian Public School held its annual day celebration. During a two-minute performance, children danced to a song by Bollywood actor Salman Khan, with some Hindu children dressed in Muslim attire. A video of the performance went viral on social media, sparking the controversy. The song was related to Eid, with lyrics such as “Assalamu Alaikum, Assalamu Alaikum, this is the message of Eid, friends.”

As soon as the video reached Hindu organizations, the matter escalated. Hindu organizations chanted slogans like “Jai Bajrangbali,” “Jai Shri Ram,” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” outside the school.

They demanded immediate action, calling the performance an insult to religious sentiments. The police intervened, calming the protesters, and the matter was resolved. There was some tension in the area for a short time, but the situation returned to normal after the agreement.
