Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the Haryana Education Board. The High Court termed the functioning of the board as insensitive. The applicant’s biometric attendance was not recorded due to an allergy, and his result was cancelled.
A petition was filed in the High Court stating that a petitioner had applied for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET). On the day of the examination, he had a fungal allergy on his hands, so his biometric attendance was not recorded. The controller at the examination centre allowed him to take the exam by registering attendance manually. Later, when the results were declared, it was said that the examination result had been cancelled because the biometric attendance was not recorded.
Justice Jasgurpreet Singh Puri said in the order that the reason for cancelling the result of the examination was the failure of the biometric machine. Justice Puri said that the petitioner had taken the exam in November 2019. His career has suffered a lot due to the cancellation of his exam results.
Due to the reasons given for the cancellation of the petitioner’s result, he was also deprived of appearing in other exams. In such a situation, apart from paying the fine, the concerned board should also release the exam results within a month.
