Heatwave Warning in Plains of Uttarakhand; Schools Shut in Dehradun, Rain Likely in 5 Districts

A heatwave warning has been issued today for the plain’s areas of Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has advised people to stay indoors. In Dehradun, DM Savin Bansal has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The administration has taken this decision to protect children from the risks of heat stroke and dehydration. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the state’s plains areas is likely to be significantly higher than normal, for which a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued.

Meanwhile, in the high-altitude areas (above 4400 meters) of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, there is a possibility of light rain or snowfall.

The mercury may cross 40°C in Dehradun

In Dehradun, the scorching heat will continue today, April 27, 2026. Today, the sky is expected to be mostly cloudy with a maximum temperature of 34°C and a minimum temperature of 21°C, while according to some local reports, the mercury may also reach 39°C to 40°C.

April 28 – In the districts of Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely at several places. Snowfall is also expected in high-altitude areas, especially above 4400 meters.

April 29 – In the districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may occur at several places. Snowfall is also expected in areas at 4000 meters or more.

April 30 – In Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall (in areas above 4000 meters) are expected at many places. In other districts of the state, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is also likely at some places.
