India’s Under-19 cricket team faced a mini setback in their ICC U19 World Cup 2026 Super Six match against Zimbabwe U19 on Tuesday, with promising young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi dismissed for 52 off a quick innings as the Indian side slipped to four wickets down during their innings in Bulawayo.
The match forms part of the Super Six stage, where the top teams from the group phase compete for a place in the semi-finals. India entered the contest unbeaten after dominating the group stage, including a strong win over New Zealand U19 in their final match.
India got off to a brisk start as young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his impressive tournament form by reaching a fast fifty scoring 52 before being dismissed. He displayed aggressive intent, hitting several boundaries and sixes in his knock before falling to a catch at mid-off.
Suryavanshi’s innings was crucial in giving India momentum and a solid platform after they lost early wickets, including Aaron George’s dismissal for 23 runs in the opening overs.
Shortly after Suryavanshi’s dismissal, Zimbabwe’s bowling attack struck again by removing Captain Ayush Mhatre (21) in the 11th over, triggering a shift in momentum. Left-arm pacer Tatenda Chimugoro delivered strongly, unsettling India’s rhythm as they slipped from a commanding position to a more vulnerable stance.
Further, Vedant Trivedi was dismissed for 15, leaving India at 130 for four in 16.2 overs. While still competitive, India needed fresh partnerships to rebuild and set a formidable total against the hosts.
Coming into the Super Six match, India were unbeaten in the group stage with wins over teams like USA U19, Bangladesh U19 and New Zealand U19, carrying excellent form and confidence into the key phase. The Super Six stage pits them against stronger competition as they push toward the knockout rounds of the World Cup.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, entered the Super Six phase with mixed results but will look to leverage their home advantage at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo to challenge the Indian side.
