New Delhi: India has strongly condemned the attacks targeting Abha International Airport in Saudi Arabia and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in the past few days. These attacks have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries to several others. India said that targeting civilian infrastructure is completely unacceptable.
MEA expresses deep sorrow
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement, “India condemns the attacks targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in the past few days, which have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.”
The MEA said, “Targeting civilian infrastructure is completely unacceptable.”
India expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The Ministry said, “We express our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones. We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
India also expressed solidarity with the people and government of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi coalition targets 82 military bases
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition claimed to have destroyed 82 Houthi militia military bases in Yemen, following attacks on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said in a statement on Wednesday that attacks by the Houthi militia on civilians and civilian targets “will not go unpunished.”
According to the coalition, 82 military bases were targeted in Saada, Al Hudaydah, Al Jawf, and Marib provinces. These included ballistic missile sites, command and control centers, communication systems, missile and weapons storage sites, and Houthi group gathering points.
The coalition also claimed to have destroyed a ballistic missile launch platform in Sana’a that was being prepared for a possible attack on Saudi Arabia.
3 killed, 36 injured
According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), separate attacks on Abha Airport and King Khalid International Airport occurred on October 6 and 7. A total of 3 people were killed and 36 injured in these incidents.
Two people were killed and 28 injured at Abha Airport, while one person was killed and eight injured at King Khalid International Airport.
GACA reported that the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment. Authorities began assessing the damage and checking the security of airport facilities.
GCC and US also expressed concern
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budawi condemned the Houthi attacks, calling them “systematic crimes” targeting civilians. He said that targeting a civilian airport and endangering the lives of passengers, staff, and civilians represents a grave circumstance and a flagrant violation of international laws and standards.
Meanwhile, the US mission in Saudi Arabia urged American citizens to be “extra vigilant.” The mission warned of the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions amid Houthi threats to Saudi Arabia’s airports and airspace.
Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarie claimed that the group had carried out missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and Saudi-backed targets.
