India, Singapore believe fighting terrorism is the duty of all, says PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that India and Singapore share a mutual commitment to combating terrorism, stressing that fighting it is the responsibility of all nations.

“We share common concerns regarding terrorism and believe that fighting terrorism together is the duty of all humanitarian nations,” PM Modi stated during a joint press conference with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

He also expressed appreciation to Singapore for its solidarity after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. “After the Pahalgam terror attack, I thank PM Wong and the Singapore government for their empathy towards the people of India and their support in our fight against terrorism,” he said.

    Singapore Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack

The remarks came as PM Modi and PM Wong met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi to discuss deepening bilateral ties.

At least 26 people were killed in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when four heavily armed terrorists—linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba—launched an attack. In response, the Indian Armed Forces initiated Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Following the incident, PM Wong posted on social media: “Shocked by the terror attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last night. Singapore strongly condemns all acts of terrorism. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all the families of the victims and the people of India.”

Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also voiced his condemnation, saying: “Deeply saddened by the terror attacks in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed the lives of many and injured others. Singapore strongly condemns terrorism. We stand with India at this difficult time.”

    Strengthening India-Singapore Strategic Partnership

PM Wong is currently on a three-day official visit to India, marking an important step in the two nations’ growing strategic partnership. This is his first visit since taking office, and he is accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation, including cabinet ministers and senior officials.

The leaders’ discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across various sectors while reinforcing shared commitments to regional security and counterterrorism.
