Indian Envoy, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Discuss Advancing Bilateral Ties

Tokyo: India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, met with Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru on Friday to discuss ways to further advance bilateral ties between the two nations, officials said.

During their meeting, the two diplomats engaged in productive discussions focused on strengthening India-Japan relations, building on momentum from recent high-level engagements, including a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese leadership at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

In a post shared by the Indian Embassy in Japan on X (formerly Twitter), it was noted that the talks aimed to build on progress in areas such as innovation, defence cooperation, talent mobility, and economic partnership, which were highlighted during the recent summit.

The meeting comes as part of a broader diplomatic push to enhance the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan — a relationship that has grown stronger through continued cooperation on trade, technology, supply chains, and regional security.

In recent weeks, Ambassador-designate Mallick also held meetings with senior Japanese officials, including discussions on disaster risk reduction and resilience, and engagements with parliamentary and economic leaders to explore deeper cooperation across multiple fronts.

The talks reaffirm the commitment of both sides to expand collaboration, including cultural, technological, economic, and people-to-people exchanges, recognizing the long-standing friendship and shared strategic interests of both countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
