Indian national killed in Riyadh amid West Asia conflict, MEA confirms

New Delhi: An Indian national has been killed in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred on March 18 following recent security-related developments in the region.

According to the MEA, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia verified the fatality and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. Officials said the embassy is coordinating with Saudi authorities and the victim’s relatives to facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains and provide necessary assistance.

Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Aseem Mahajan, Additional Secretary in the Gulf Division of the MEA, said the government had received confirmation of the death late Thursday night. He described the incident as a “tragic demise” during an attack in Riyadh linked to the escalating regional tensions.

The ministry also said Indian diplomatic missions across the Gulf region are closely monitoring the security situation as hostilities continue. With this latest casualty, the number of Indian nationals killed in incidents related to the West Asia conflict has risen to six, while one Indian citizen is still reported missing.

The government said its embassies in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries, including Oman, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, remain in regular contact with local authorities and the Indian community to ensure their safety.

India has also stepped up efforts to assist citizens caught in the conflict zone. Several rescue and repatriation operations have been conducted in recent days, including the evacuation of Indian seafarers and workers stranded in affected areas.

The MEA reiterated that the safety and welfare of Indian nationals abroad remains a priority and urged citizens in the region to remain cautious and follow advisories issued by Indian missions.
