Indian-America student dies in Bahamas after falling from balcony

Boston: An Indian-origin student from the United States died after falling from a balcony in the Bahamas, just days before his graduation. Gaurav Jaisingh, a student at Bentley University in Massachusetts, was participating in an annual senior class trip. Reports indicate that Jaisingh, originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi.

Gaurav Jaisingh, a student at Bentley University in Massachusetts, was participating in an annual senior class trip. Reports indicate that Jaisingh, originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and the South Asian Students Association at the university.

Bentley University expressed grief over the tragic incident via social media on Wednesday. The institution stated, “It has been a tough few days, and our community is mourning the loss of Gaurav Jaisingh ’25. Our sympathies go out to Gaurav’s family and friends. We plan to honor him at the upcoming undergraduate commencement.”

The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the incident, explaining that Jaisingh fell from an upper-level balcony while inside his hotel room with roommates. According to initial reports, the police launched an investigation into the case. They noted that around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, the victim was inside his hotel room when he accidentally fell from the balcony, and he was later found unresponsive on a lower floor.

Emergency services responded promptly, transporting him to a hospital, but he passed away en route. Authorities are continuing their investigation.

Bentley University conveyed its condolences to Gaurav’s family and friends, stating, “While investigations are ongoing, it appears that Gaurav’s death was accidental. We will share more information when available, respecting his family’s privacy.” The university also announced that it is providing support resources for students affected by the tragedy and encouraged anyone in need of help to contact the campus counseling center.
