Iran’s New Strategy: Tolls to be imposed on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz

New Delhi: The Iranian Parliament’s Security Committee has approved a new plan for the management of the Strait of Hormuz, which includes a proposal to impose tolls on ships passing through this vital sea route. This information was reported by Iranian state media IRIB.

Preparations to implement a toll system and strict regulations

According to the report, the plan covers aspects such as security, ship safety, environmental protection, and financial management. It also proposes implementing a rial-based toll system.

Ban on US-Israeli ships

Under the plan, US and Israeli ships are completely barred from entering. Additionally, ships from countries that are part of unilateral sanctions against Iran will also be barred.

Cooperation on Legal Framework with Oman

Iran has also stated its plan to develop a legal framework with Oman to further strengthen its sovereignty over the Strait.

US Response and Warning

Meanwhile, the United States has indicated that it may re-establish control over the Strait of Hormuz in the future. President Donald Trump has warned that Iran’s energy infrastructure could be targeted if the Strait is not opened.
