Jalandhar Carpenter wins ₹50 Lakh on KBC, answered question without lifeline

New Delhi: Sony TV’s popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati witnessed a memorable moment in its September 18 episode when Chhinderpal, a carpenter from Hussainpur village in Lambra, Jalandhar, clinched ₹50 lakh. His remarkable journey from a life of struggle to national recognition left not just the audience but also host Amitabh Bachchan deeply impressed.

Chhinderpal, who has spent years working as a carpenter to support his family, always harboured a love for learning and general knowledge. His persistence paid off when he earned a place on the KBC hot seat. Playing with confidence and composure, he steadily climbed the money tree, using very few lifelines along the way.

The turning point came when he tackled the ₹50 lakh question without any lifeline, astonishing both the audience and Big B. The studio burst into applause as he crossed the milestone. Bachchan praised him warmly, saying, “Your way of thinking will always remain in our hearts.”

The game ended at the ₹1 crore question: “Before becoming Surveyor General of India, which island did George Everest survey between 1814 and 1816?” Unsure of the answer, Chhinderpal chose to quit and secured his winnings. For formality, he guessed Jamaica, but the correct answer was Java.

Back in Hussainpur, news of his win set off celebrations. Villagers hailed him as proof that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary feats through determination and hard work. Chhinderpal, too, dedicated his success to his family and promised to use the prize money to ensure his children’s education.

What began as a personal triumph has now become a source of pride for his entire community — a story of resilience, knowledge, and the power of dreams.
