Jalandhar Murder Case: Friend Allegedly Killed, Body Buried in 10-Foot Deep Pit After Being Called Home

Jalandhar, Punjab: In a shocking development in the Gurpreet Singh murder case, police recovered the body of the 22-year-old DJ from a 10-foot-deep pit at a garbage dump in Jalandhar Cantt on June 26. The recovery was made after accused Ravi reportedly confessed and led police to the burial site.

Friend Lured Victim, Alcohol Consumed Before Killing

Gurpreet Singh and Ravi, a JCB operator, had been close friends for nearly six years. On June 22, Ravi allegedly called Gurpreet from home under false pretenses. The two consumed alcohol together, after which Gurpreet was allegedly attacked. Police say Ravi slit his throat using a datar (a large curved blade) once he became intoxicated.

Family Alleges Larger Conspiracy, Questions Police Probe

The victim’s family has raised serious questions over the investigation, claiming Ravi did not act alone. They allege that a 10×8-foot pit could not have been dug without heavy machinery, suggesting a JCB machine was likely used. The family has accused police of ignoring possible involvement of others, including the JCB owner.

They further alleged that authorities are attempting to shield those linked to the machinery and failing to expand the investigation properly.

Police Say Probe at Initial Stage

Jalandhar Cantt police have maintained that the investigation is still in its early phase. Officials said Ravi will be produced in court for remand, and further suspects may be added to the FIR based on interrogation findings and evidence.

Old Enmity Suspected Behind Murder

Preliminary police findings suggest the murder may have been driven by personal enmity. It is reported that Ravi had earlier broken Gurpreet’s car window after a dispute, following which Gurpreet allegedly verbally abused him. Police believe this incident may have triggered the fatal attack.

Accused in Custody, Further Interrogation Planned

Ravi is currently in police custody. After his confession, authorities recovered the buried body. A case has been registered based on the complaint of the victim’s father. Police said they will seek remand for deeper interrogation and to establish whether others were involved in the crime.
