Jalandhar: Elections will be held across 99 wards spanning Jalandhar’s 5 municipal councils and 2 Nagar Panchayats. On the first day of the process, Wednesday (May 13), no candidate filed nominations. Divya P, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) ‘cum’ Additional District Election Officer, Jalandhar, stated that candidates may file their nomination papers until May 16, between the hours of 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on May 18, and candidates will have the option to withdraw their nominations until 3:00 PM on May 19. The Additional Deputy Commissioner further informed that voting for the 13 wards of Municipal Council Adampur, 15 wards of Kartarpur, 17 wards of Nakodar, 13 wards of Nurmahal, and 15 wards of Municipal Council Phillaur as well as the 13 wards each of Nagar Panchayats Lohian Khas and Mahitpur, will be held on May 26 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The counting of votes will be conducted on May 29.
Deputy Commissioner Also Holds Meeting with Officials
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia also convened a meeting with officials from the Health Department and the Social Security Department. He issued directives to expedite the registration process under the ‘Chief Minister’s Health Scheme’ and the ‘Maavan-Dhiyan Satkar Scheme’ (Mothers-Daughters Respect Scheme), ensuring that every eligible resident of the district can avail themselves of the benefits of these initiatives. He noted that, under the health scheme, every family is being provided with medical treatment facilities worth up to ₹10 lakh.
No One Should Be Deprived of Health Protection Cover
While reviewing the progress of the schemes during the meeting with officials, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that no eligible beneficiary should be deprived of the health protection cover being provided by the state government. He directed officials to conduct awareness campaigns and special registration drives at both rural and urban levels to ensure broad public participation in the schemes.
