Jalandhar Police Arrest 3, Recover 5 Pistols and 5 Live Rounds in Major Arms Case

Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has arrested three accused and recovered five pistols and five live rounds as part of a special campaign against criminal elements and illegal weapons.

According to a police press note, the arrests followed an incident at a checkpoint set up by a team from Jandiala Police Post, under Sadar Police Station, at Jandiala Mor on September 18.

Accused Allegedly Opens Fire at Police Officer

During checking, police intercepted a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number PB-08-GB-1101. According to the police, one of the occupants allegedly pulled out a pistol and attempted to fire at a police officer.

Police said they overpowered the accused and thwarted the alleged firing attempt. However, two shots were fired and hit the wall of a nearby dhaba, according to the police.

The accused who allegedly fired the weapon was identified as Manpreet Singh alias ‘Mani Shokar’, while the Scorpio driver was identified as Dilpreet Singh, son of Gurnek Singh. Police seized the Glock pistol allegedly used in the incident along with three live rounds.

Five Pistols, Five Rounds Recovered

Following the incident, Case No. 367 was registered on September 19 at Sadar Police Station, Jalandhar, under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

According to police, interrogation of Manpreet Singh alias ‘Mani Shokar’ led to the recovery of four additional pistols and two more live rounds. This took the total recovery in the case to five pistols and five live rounds.

The recovered weapons include a Glock 19 Gen4 9×19, Cugir Romania Model TT-C and Walther PP, along with other pistols.

Three Accused Arrested, Investigation Underway

The three arrested accused have been identified as Manpreet Singh alias ‘Mani Shokar’, a resident of Atti Baja village in Phillaur, Jalandhar; Dilpreet Singh, a resident of Dharm Singh Wala village under Fatehgarh Panjtoor Police Station in Moga district; and Mehar Singh alias Prince, a resident of New Azad Nagar, Bahadurke Road, Ludhiana.

Police said the three were arrested on September 19 and 20.

The investigation is underway, and police are questioning the accused to establish the alleged source and supply network of the weapons and other details connected with the case.
