Jharkhand JPSC-JSSC Protest: Students Continue Stir After 2nd Round of Talks

Ranchi: Following the second round of talks between the JMM-led Jharkhand government and students of the JPSC-JSSC Aspirant Nyay Manch, the student delegation said on Saturday that the government had “listened and seriously considered” their demands.

However, the students protesting over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) said their agitation would continue until their demands are met.

Students Seek Action on Recruitment Exam Issues

Amit, a member of the student delegation, said the protesters conveyed the concerns and difficulties faced by students in Jharkhand to the government.

One of the demands raised during the meeting was Rs 1 crore compensation for aspirants who lost their lives during physical efficiency tests, including running trials, for the Jharkhand Excise Constable recruitment drive in 2024.

“We will continue the agitation till a concrete conclusion is reached,” Amit told IANS.

Referring to the government as a “guardian”, he said, “We are the ones who voted them to power…the government has assured that it will consider our demands and we are hopeful for that.”

Another delegation member, Chandan, described the meeting as positive and said the students presented their demands along with facts and evidence.

“The meeting with the government was positive. We presented all our demands with facts and evidence. Our colleagues had already informed us about all the issues and provided the necessary facts, and we have put every point before the government in detail,” he said.

According to Chandan, the government took note of the concerns and said officials would speak to the Chief Minister soon, following which action would be taken at the earliest.

Students Demand Cancellation of TDPL Exams

Chandan said the protesters have demanded cancellation of examinations conducted by TDPL agency whose results have not yet been declared.

“We have also demanded that a reliable agency like TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) should be given the responsibility to conduct exams or the Commission should itself do so. The government should stop messing with the future of students by giving the examination responsibility to blacklisted companies,” he said.

The students also demanded that the government clarify a timeline for fulfilling their demands.

“Till our demands are met we will continue this agitation and those of our colleagues who are on hunger strike will continue their fast. Government should clarify till when will our demands be met,” Chandan said.

Students Seek CBI Probe Into JSSC CGL Exam

Ravishankar, another member of the eight-member delegation, said the government gave the students considerable time to present their concerns and noted down the issues raised during the meeting.

He said the students were seeking cancellation of examinations conducted by TDPL and fast-track reappointment of candidates.

“A CBI probe should be conducted into JSSC CGL exam and if irregularities are found then it should be cancelled immediately…and also compensation for those who died during the running trials of Jharkhand Excise Constable recruitment,” he said.

Ravishankar said the government had “seriously considered” the demands raised by the delegation.

Dinabandhu Mandal, another delegation member, said the students also demanded that vacancies be filled within six months whenever examinations are cancelled and that merit lists of eligible candidates be released.

“From whatever discussion we had, it is understood that the government has seriously considered our demands and hopefully it will take action on it, but till then our protest will continue,” he said.

The JPSC-JSSC Aspirant Nyay Manch has maintained that the agitation will continue until concrete action is taken on the demands raised by the protesting students.
