New Delhi: Pro-Khalistan separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has threatened actor-comedian Kapil Sharma, warning that “Canada is not your playground” and demanding he “take back his blood money back to Hindustan.”
Threat Message by SFJ Founder
In a video message, Pannun, who was designated an “individual terrorist” by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019, accused Kapil Sharma of promoting Hindutva ideology under the guise of doing business in Canada. He said Canada will not allow such ideas to take root on its soil.
“Canada is not your playground. Take your blood money back to Hindustan. Canada will not allow violent Hindutva ideology to take root on Canadian soil under the guise of business,” Pannun said.
He also questioned whether Kap’s Cafe, Sharma’s restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia, was “just a comedy venue or part of a larger strategy to export Hindutva,” asking, “One business at a time?”
Attack on Kap’s Cafe
The threat follows an attack on Sharma’s newly opened restaurant, Kap’s Cafe, on Wednesday night, where shots were fired. No one was injured in the incident.
Harjit Singh Laddi and Toofan Singh, linked to the proscribed terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility for the attack. BKI is recognised as a terrorist outfit by the Canadian government, and Laddi is on India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) most-wanted list.
SFJ and Its Activities
SFJ is a banned organisation under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for anti-national activities, which, according to the Home Ministry, threaten the country’s internal security and integrity. The organisation continues to be involved in subversive activities in Punjab and elsewhere, aiming to disrupt India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Centre has also stated that SFJ maintains close ties with militant outfits and activists, actively encouraging and aiding secessionist activities, including attempts to destabilize India’s democratically elected government.
Legal Actions Against Pannun
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered and is probing several cases against Pannun. He currently has a total of 104 cases against him, all of which are under investigation either by NIA or by state authorities where the cases were registered.
Kapil Sharma’s Response
In an Instagram post on Friday, Kap’s Cafe said the team was “processing the shock” but stood firm against violence. Kapil Sharma has not yet publicly responded to the incident.
