Karnataka SIR: Four Union Ministers Join BJP-JD(S) Delegation Meeting EC in Delhi Today

New Delhi: A joint delegation of BJP and JD(S) leaders from Karnataka, including four Union Ministers, is set to meet the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday to raise concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.

The delegation is scheduled to meet Election Commission officials at the poll panel’s headquarters in New Delhi and submit a memorandum highlighting alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process.

Four Union Ministers Part of Delegation

The delegation includes Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Shobha Karandlaje, and V. Somanna, along with senior BJP and JD(S) leaders, including Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, Legislative Council Opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and other party representatives.

Opposition Alleges Irregularities

The BJP and JD(S) have alleged that the Karnataka government violated Election Commission guidelines during the SIR exercise by improperly distributing enumeration forms instead of carrying out door-to-door verification.

The alliance has also accused the state government of attempting to influence the electoral roll revision process, allegations rejected by the ruling Congress.

Congress Rejects Allegations

Karnataka Congress leaders have dismissed the BJP-JD(S) claims, accusing the opposition of politicising the electoral revision process.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has maintained that the state government is only creating awareness among voters to help them protect their voting rights, while Congress leaders have alleged that the BJP is attempting to mislead the public over the SIR exercise.

The BJP-JD(S) delegation is expected to brief the media after its meeting with the Election Commission.
