Punjab BJP Chief Kewal Singh Dhillon Hits Back at Kejriwal Over ‘Mundra Port’ Remark, Raises Drug Crisis

Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has hit back at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal over his remarks on the drug trade and Mundra Port, accusing the AAP leadership of failing to address Punjab’s drug crisis.

Dhillon said Punjab should first be looked at before raising questions about drug trafficking elsewhere. He alleged that drug-related deaths and suicides have continued in the state and claimed that people who speak out against drugs are being threatened or suppressed.

Kejriwal has recently said that the fight against drugs should begin from Mundra Port in Gujarat, while questioning the BJP’s campaign against the drug menace in Punjab.

Dhillon Raises Punjab Drug Crisis

In his response, Dhillon alleged that the drug trade has spread across Punjab and accused the AAP leadership of failing to fulfil its earlier promises to eradicate drugs.

He claimed that the situation has affected Punjab’s youth and alleged that families continue to suffer because of drug abuse. These remarks are part of the ongoing political exchange between the BJP and AAP over the drug situation in the state.

Recent reporting shows that the BJP has launched its Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, while AAP leaders have questioned the BJP’s record on the drug issue and pointed to drug seizures at ports, including Mundra.

‘First Look At Punjab’s Condition’: Dhillon

Dhillon also targeted the AAP leadership over issues including law and order, farmers, traders and government employees.

He alleged that the state government had failed to control the drug trade and claimed that Punjab’s financial condition and law-and-order situation had deteriorated.

The BJP leader further criticised what he described as the “Kejriwal model”, alleging that after Delhi, the AAP leadership had failed to address problems facing Punjab.

These are political allegations made by Dhillon and have not been independently established by the statements cited above.

BJP-AAP War Of Words Over Mundra Port

The exchange comes amid an intensified political debate over Punjab’s drug crisis ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Kejriwal has argued that drug trafficking through BJP-ruled states and ports such as Mundra should also be addressed. Punjab BJP chief Dhillon, meanwhile, has pointed to the role of enforcement agencies at Mundra and accused the AAP government of repeatedly extending deadlines to eliminate drugs from Punjab.

The BJP’s anti-drug campaign is currently being carried out through multiple yatras across Punjab, with the party saying the initiative is aimed at turning the fight against drugs into a mass movement.
